John Magee passed away in his home in Fontana, California on November 24, 2016 at the age of 78. He was born in Belfast, Ireland to William and Elizabeth Magee on October 7, 1938. John grew up in Belfast where he enjoyed all sports, but especially hurling, Gaelic football, golf, and camping, as well as finding other mischievous adventures to pass the time. While in Ireland, John started his career as a carpenter, married his wife of 51 years, Gabrielle, and became a father to his daughter, Grainne. In 1967, he and his young family immigrated to California. He believed in the value of hard work, rising through the management ranks at both the Los Angeles Times, and then, after retirement, returned to work at JPL. His greatest love was his family, and he was known as "Uncle John" to three generations of children. He is a beloved husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, and Uncle who will be missed by all that knew him. He was immensely proud of his Irish heritage and was known by his friends and coworkers in America as the "Little Irish Man".

"Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there. I do not sleep. I am the thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on the snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of gentle birds in circling light. I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry - I am not there, I did not die".
